In this type of disorder people are going through a series of imagination and are in fear of their body size and as a result they are on a complete diet so as to reduce some of the body weight. Mainly it is a loss of appetite where people in order to maintain their distorted body image they control their desire to eat. Excessive exercise is accompanied with the starving behavior of the individual.
Anorexia disorder mainly occurs in pre or post puberty period and is most affected to adolescent girls though men can also have this disorder. Mainly girls go on obsessive dieting because of societal pressure to be thin which is a natural tendency in society. Others such as dancers, athlete, actors, models and T.V personality also goes on dieting as a part of their professional requirements.
People having anorexia disorder have a faith that they are not healthy or develop weight even if they are slimmer of bone thin. the signs which tells us that the person is suffering from anorexia disorder is that the skin are becoming yellowish and dry in nature and the nails , hairs are becoming brittle . Followed by depression and dropping of body temperature are another signs of this disorder.
Some of the causes of this type of disorder are:
- Low in self esteem
- Social isolation
- Perfectionism
Person suffering from anorexia disorder can cause damage to his heart or brains by keeping starve from food for long time even their pulse rate and blood pressure rate can drop. Loss of nutritional intakes has serious effects on bones of a person and is more prone to breakage than normal person bones do.
Early diagnosis to this problem can prove to be very successful in restoring weight to the individual. Form of cognitive behavioral therapy can be used to change their thoughts about the weight which is surrounded to them in subsequent way and it is also important as they can share their experiences with other individuals during the process. Healthy advice from a nutritionist is found to be very useful in guiding the individual about their eating habits
